Opportunities
Sport
Each year, we have out-of-school teams in Netball, Hockey and Miniball in the Winter, and Cricket, Water-polo and Volleyball in the summer for children who are in Year 4 or higher. We do rely on our parents to volunteer as team managers and coaches.
We take part in the winter and summer interschool sports exchanges which include athletics and cross-country running. If you have any questions about any aspect of sport, please contact Jonnina Temple (after-school sport) or Jessie Williams (in school sport) through the school office.
Performance Opportunities
During the year our children have opportunities to view external presenters who come to the school to perform for us. Every second year we present a major school production where every child is involved in some way. In 2009 it was "Show Time at the Sea" staged in the last week of term 3. Your child will also perform in dance and singing items through out the year with their class room.
Music
We currently have Mrs Shirlie Dingwall available to teach children in keyboard and singing during school hours. Please contact the school if you would like more information about this.
Swimming / Aquatic Centre
Pool maintenance is time-consuming and expensive, and Rotorua summers are short, we therefore use the Rotorua Aquatic Centre as our base for teaching swimming in Term 4 of each year. This also means that our children get instruction from the trained 'Swimsation' staff at the Aquatic Centre.
Outdoor Education
All children will be involved in outdoor education and trips throughout the year.
Book Week
Each year we have a Book Week which focuses on a particular theme or author. The children participate in a variety of activities promoting reading. There may be a guest author or illustrator visit the children and for many years now we have had a special "Character Parade" where the children are able to dress-up as their favourite story-book character. We have special displays of books which may be purchased for home, or as a donation to the school.
