We have out-of-school teams in Netball, Hockey and Miniball in the winter and Touch, Futsal and Water polo in the summer for children.  We do rely on our parents to volunteer as team managers and coaches. We have a sports uniform top that is available to purchase which can then be used for fitness and other school sport to save the school uniform from wear and tear. We will provide a sports uniform to those children who do not have one.

We take part in the winter and summer interschool sports exchanges, including cross-country running and athletics. If you have any questions about the any aspect of in-school sport, please contact Christina de Lore. For after school sports please see Janine in the office and she will put you in touch with the correct coordinator.

Performance Opportunities

During the year our children have opportunities to view external presenters who come to the school to perform for us.  Every second year we present a major production either as a whole school or in teams, where every child is involved in some way.  In 2019 each team performed a show when it suited them during the year. They were amazing! Your child will also perform in dance and singing items through out the year with their class room or are able to join the kapahaka group.

We currently have Mrs Jans providing music opportunities for our students.  This includes group sessions in recorder and ukelele. Mrs Jans is also in charge of our choir.

Swimming / Aquatic Centre

Pool maintenance is time-consuming and expensive so we use the Rotorua Aquatic centre as our base for teaching swimming in Term 1 & 4 of each year. From 2019 our programme changed to reflect what we believed better suited our tamariki ie: Lake Safety for Seniors, water confidence for Juniors and 3 weeks of swimming lessons for years 2 -4.

All students who are interested can audition for the Kapahaka group who perform at the local concert bi-yearly (alternating with production). If there is enough interest, we also run an ‘up and coming’ kapahaka group so that everyone who wants to can be part of the fun!

Outdoor Education

All children will be involved in outdoor education and trips throughout the year. See under Curriculum for more information.

Book Week

Each year we have a Book Week which focuses on a particular theme eg: space, winter wonderland, ice age etc. During this week students participate in a variety of activities promoting reading.  There may be a guest author or illustrator visit the children, dress up days and competitions throughout the week.  We have the Scholastic Book Fair provide a huge array of books and stationery items which may be purchased for home, or as a donation to the school.
